Know the Artist
Nina Sendrijas Jones
Nina is a Filipino - Canadian artist based in Calgary, Alberta. Initially a self-taught artist, she has expanded her artistic skills over the years by studying the works of various classic and contemporary painters and designers, as well as learning with fellow artists in Calgary.
She primarily uses acrylics as her main medium, though she occasionally experiments with watercolors and gouache. As a Fine Artist, she has a realist approach at heart, but she also has a deep appreciation for impressionistic techniques.
Her painting process is intuitive; she lets her emotions and creative flow guide each brushstroke and color choice on the canvas. She cherishes every stage of her work, making each piece a true reflection of herself, beautifully conveyed through her art.
Recently, she has expanded her credentials by becoming a Surface Pattern Designer. She feels equally comfortable and confident using a design software to craft designs on a digital canvas, just as she does on a physical one. All her creations are inspired by nature, reflecting the natural elements and colors she adores in her environment.
She has a passion for painting and creating artwork that showcases botanicals, flowers, animals, as well as natural landscapes and waterscapes. The joy she experiences from capturing the essence of nature and recreating its beauty through her art is immense, as it honors the splendor and spirit of Mother Earth!
Growing up in the Philippines, her cultural background and artistic family nurtured her passion for the arts, music, and literature, including poetry. Now as a wife and a mother, she aspires to pass on that same appreciation for the arts to her children.
Her upbringing in the island, has instilled in her, a profound love for nature. The stunning seas, picturesque beaches, vibrant tropical landscapes, and the joyful, carefree lifestyle shared with the people of her smaller Philippine island shaped her character and helped define her artistic values.
Currently, she finds inspiration in the stunning natural parks filled with a variety of plants and animals in Calgary and its surrounding areas. She also enjoys the breathtaking landscapes and waterways of Alberta and British Columbia, featuring majestic mountains, world-class lakes and rivers, as well as beautiful forests.
She aspires for each piece of her work to evoke a profound sense of joy and inspiration in others. Furthermore, she wishes for her creations to foster love and appreciation for our natural environment while raising awareness about the essential need for responsible conservation of our habitats, along with their flora and fauna.
